How Spot the Blow-in plays

  1. Get your card. Press and hold your phone to see the secret word. One player's card says "You're the blow-in" instead.
  2. One word each. Go round the circle and say one word that fits, out loud. Locals, show you know it without making it easy. Blow-in, listen and blend in.
  3. Vote and reveal. Everyone votes in secret. Catch the blow-in and every local scores 1. Miss them and the blow-in scores 3. A caught blow-in gets one guess at the word, from eight on their phone, and a right guess steals 2.

Some of the words

Questions about Spot the Blow-in

What is a blow-in?

Someone from out of town who is trying to look like a local. In the game, one phone says "You're the blow-in" instead of showing the word, and that player has to bluff along.

Can a caught blow-in still win?

Yes, once. A caught blow-in gets one guess at the word, picked from eight on their phone. Guess right and they steal the round and score 2.

What is sneaky mode?

It is for older players. The blow-in gets a close word instead, like Alexandra Headland when everyone else has Mooloolaba, and might not know they are the blow-in.

Does anyone type?

No. In the game you tap a name to vote and tap a word to guess, so nothing anyone writes is ever shown or kept.

Is it OK for kids?

Ages 7 and up. The words are everyday places, foods, animals and beach things, and in classic mode the blow-in's phone tells them straight away, which suits kids and first games.

How many can play?

3 to 12, in the same room, each on their own phone.

Is it really free?

Yes, for good. There is no pack to buy and no price on the card, and everyone the host invites plays free.

Do we need an app or a TV?

No. It runs in each phone's web browser. The host opens a party, everyone scans the code, and every phone is that player's own screen.
